About Kopitiam Dublin

Hidden in the vibrant streets of Dublin’s North City lies Kopitiam Dublin, a haven for authentic Malaysian flavors that truly transport you to the bustling kopitiams of Southeast Asia. Situated at 53 Capel Street, this family-run gem embodies not just the rich culinary traditions of Malaysia but also its warm, welcoming spirit. From the moment you step in, you're greeted by a relaxed atmosphere and staff who know every dish inside out, offering recommendations that make the dining experience both effortless and memorable.

The menu is a celebration of Malaysia’s diverse cuisine, with highlights that instantly steal the show. The Beef Rendang is a masterclass in slow-cooked depth, tender and rich with spices that cling to every bite, perfectly complemented by the fragrant coconut rice. The Marmite Chicken, whether on the bone or breast, delivers a bold, umami-packed punch that’s uniquely satisfying. For seafood lovers, dishes like the Salt and Pepper Squid and the Tangy Assam Curry Fish Fillet offer contrasting textures and flavors — crisp, savory, and tangy — that highlight the freshness of the ingredients and the skill in balancing complex Malay spices.

Kopitiam isn’t just about mains; the sides are equally compelling. The Telur Dadar (Malaysian egg omelette with onions) brings a comforting, homely touch, while the Banana Fritter served with ice cream is a revelation—crispy, sweet, and perfectly executed. The Cendol, thick with creamy coconut milk, is a cooling balm after a spicy meal and a must-try dessert for anyone craving authentic Malay sweetness.

The portions here are generous, inviting both sharing and indulgence; it’s easy to see why many diners favor the set menus crafted for two to four people, each a curated journey through iconic Malaysian dishes. What stands out most is the care taken to keep the kitchen fully halal without compromising on traditional flavors, a detail that ensures everyone can enjoy the feast without concern.

Customers frequently mention the friendly, knowledgeable staff who make you feel at home, echoing the authenticity that the owners bring not just in food but in their cultural warmth. Whether it’s the nostalgic taste of Wat Tan Hor or the perfectly balanced complexity of Singapore Laksa, each dish arrives as a tribute to Malaysia’s culinary heritage.

In essence, Kopitiam Dublin is more than a restaurant—it’s a gateway to the bold, vibrant tastes of Malaysia nestled right in the heart of Dublin. For those seeking fresh, spicy, and hearty fares with a touch of comforting hospitality, Kopitiam shines as a delicious hallmark of Malaysian gastronomy abroad.

What a lovely place to eat. This seems to be family-run, and people were so nice. There are many options on the menu (most of them with images), from noodle dishes and soup to rendangs. The portions are large, and if you are up for a pint of Guinness, nobody will stop you. On the photos: duck soup and beef rendang. Great value and very pleasant.

Malaysian food at its best. Fresh. Spicy. Tangy. And nice big portions. Staff are well versed in all the dishes and advise well on choices. A relaxed atmosphere. Easy going and fun.

All dishes were so so good, sedap sangat sangat. We kept coming back countless times in just less than a year And we often order full course, can never walk away from just ordering main meals, really. So tempted to have it all. Please have some kind of discount or membership for people like us Wat Tan Hor were the best. This is my third time ordering it. I cannot move on Banana fritter were very crunchy and combination with ice cream was out of this world. Singapore Laksa Lemak, broth were thick and cukup rasa. Marmite chicken, nobody can nail it like them. Tauhu sumbat was a little surprise for me (because of presentation different from back home ) but the taste even when i have it the next day, were still good. No need to reheat with the cucumber there obviously. Cendol, i ordered with red bean asing because the combo isnt a thing for me. Cendol was so thick with coconut milk (in a good way) and melts in your mouth Beware, you will be very very full after eating dishes here so maybe can consider walk home instead of taking the bus Also, best to dine-in for portions and freshness. Can just take away later if you cant finish it. Extra charge of €0.20 for the boxes though, just fyi. Oh and of course, best part is, this Malaysian restaurant is a fully halal one. It serves alcohol yes but the glass were different sets from the non-alcohol menu

Wow, large portions and incredible taste. Friendly and helpful staff. Very accommodating for customisation. Highly recommend their mee goreng and singapore laksa is too die for

Was excited to find this gem in the heart of Dublin! I wasn't able to dine in, but I picked up my order and got a brief look at the restaurant. Let’s start with the food. I ordered some basics: 1. Nasi Lemak - The rice was fragrant without being overly coconut-y. The sambal, with big slices of cooked onion, leaned sweet, ikan bilis/peanuts and the rendang sauce paired perfectly with the dish. The fried chicken drumstick was juicy and fried to perfection! 2. Char Kuay Teow - Hmm… it lacked that essential “wok hei” (IYKYK). That said, the shrimp and squid were huge and generously served. And the winner of the night… *drum roll…* 1. Fook Kian Chow (Hokkien Mee) - This was my first time having such authentic Hokkien Mee outside of Malaysia. I’ve tried many Malaysian restaurants in the States, and so far, all were disappointing. But THIS! They had the fried chicken skin pieces (instead of the traditional usual pork lard) on top— that works! So it’s def HALAL and pork free! The noodles were cooked perfectly in the rich, dark brown sauce, and they were very generous with the shrimp and sotong (squid). Owner/Staff: Legit Malaysians who made me feel right at home with their language, smiles, and of course, the food. I highly recommend this place to everyone.

I was looking for good and authentic nasi goreng and I got it here. I would give this dish a solid 5 stars. The roti was great but the sauce was not outstanding. The nasi lemak was average though the rice was slightly better than other places ( too much cooking and too smushy). The desert was great. Overall, this kitchen is better and more authentic than others in town.

Kopitiam is a lovely spot for authentic Malaysian street food right in Dublin. From the moment you walk in, the place feels warm and welcoming, with a cosy atmosphere and colourful décor that reflects its Malaysian roots. It’s especially inviting in the evening and has a relaxed, neighbourhood café vibe. The food is the real highlight. The menu offers a great range of Malaysian dishes, with rich flavours, generous portions, and clearly a lot of care put into the cooking. Everything tastes fresh and well-seasoned, and it’s a great place to try classic Malaysian comfort food if you’re not already familiar with the cuisine. Service is friendly and attentive without being rushed, and staff are happy to explain dishes or make recommendations. Prices are reasonable for the quality and portion sizes, making it good value for money. Overall, Kopitiam is a great choice for anyone looking for something a bit different in Dublin, whether you’re already a fan of Malaysian food or trying it for the first time. Definitely worth a visit.

In my opinion, this is one of the most delicious restaurants in Dublin. The flavours are so strong and delicious, the food is served fresh with great ingredients and kind quick service. The menu is large with much to choose from, and every time I come here I leave deeply satisfied with my meal. Strongly recommended to anyone who loves a good fulfilling meal!
